THE HIGHLANDS; while of course the highlands can not be reached by ship directly, side trips by plane for the day or overnight can open up a whole new world when compared to coastal New Guinea. The Mudmen of Asaro can for example be packaged as a day tour by charter flight.
SOLOMON ISLANDS; the wreck of the expedition ship MV World Discoverer in the Ngella Islands, extremely remote Vanikoro where French explorer La Perouse met his demise, the incredible wood carvers of Marovo Lagoon, the western outpost of Gizo where JFK’s patrol boat was rammed by a Japanese destroyer in WWII, just like PNG the Solomons has endless choices in incredible destinations to visit by ship.
